Well, considering that I'm in a boffer group that fights with light foam weapons, and I still nearly tore a guy's thumb off at our season opener, I know how easy it is to cause accidental injury even with "safe" full contact weapons. Having an ambulance carry someone off your field is really bad for morale.

That axe looks pretty sweet though. One of our new guys fights with a long and short axe (we call it Dwarven Florentine), I bet he'd love a long hafted one like that.

@NevTheDeranged Training is important, our society only allows combat with more "advanced" weapons once experience with less dangerous ones is gained. Tests play a big part in advancement too, helping weed out those who don't have the control needed.

you want to use this daneaxe way better? use it mainly left handed... your opponent would have to twist his shoulders to protect his "unshielded" side so when the axe hits the shield your opponent would lose balance

God, ive sparred with wppden weapons and rubber axe blades and people told me i was a berserker cause i would just hack the shit outta everyone

I agree with those mentioning the sheer awesomeness of the lady with the axe, but if you're interested in accurate fighting techniques, it helps to have less dangerous weapons. Otherwise using historically accurate combat techniques would produce historically accurate results. Safety measures like restraining your swings so they don't hurt anyone would be far more limiting with a dane axe than with a lighter weapon.
