It has been 1 year and 4 months since I learned my italic hand.
And I have successfully incorporated it into my daily use.
Glad that some of my colleagues call me "The Fountain Pen"

This clip is the summary of what I learnt and my own thoughts about handwriting, or penmanship.
Fountain pen is better than ball point pens in that it controls your hand movement. Especially for broad edge nib like the one I'm using, once your finger moves and tilts the pen angle up or down, left or right, the lines will skip as the nib does not have full contact with the paper.

I hope this clip can serve to enlighten somebody who wants to write better, just like me, who was scolded by mom for the past 20 years for bad handwriting.
(Now I have effectively shut her up, ha ha.)

My pen: Lamy AL-Star with 1.5mm nib, with Lamy Blue-black ink.

P.S. I like to use Lamy Blue-Black as it is waterproof (Iron-gall ink)

  • Lamy Al-Star or Safari can be bought in many places including wing on. But the nib so far you need to buy the calligraphy version of the pen, Lamy Joy, or buy the separate nib from Lamy counter in Tai koo shing.

It's not a flexible nib, by the way.

  • I bought my pen with the nib in Lamy counter in a department store in Hong Kong. One pen costs HKD 395, around USD 50. The nib can be bought separately at HKD 92, around USD 12.
