Stories from Camp Hamwi

For more than 40 years, Central Ohio Diabetes Association's Camp Hamwi has offered this exceptional opportunity for a summer camp experience for youth with diabetes. In addition to enjoying traditional camp challenges, campers at Hamwi participate in activities designed to improve their knowledge of their own diabetes. Learning sessions include topics covering exercise, nutrition, insulin administration and blood glucose monitoring. Meeting and sharing with other youth with diabetes provides a chance for youth to compare experiences and feelings about living with diabetes. Camp Hamwi encourages independence in diabetes management while providing medical staff to help with education and assistance where needed.

My son has gone to camp for 6 years now. He loves camp, and looks forward to it all year. He often says he wishes it was longer because it is the only place his Type 1 is totally understood. He feels accepted for who he is and that he in normal for that whole week! The video brought me to tears... that said I do think the pictures could have been more current, and more kids and adults interviewed as well. It is very difficult to live with type1. Thank You Camp Hamwii!!!!!

Camp is amazing. This video is not. Could they possibly use current pictures. I know there are far more current pictures available. Most of these pics are more than 5 years old. Very disappointing. If you're going to make a video, that's great but really step it up and do it right. And since when does Program staff do finger sticks? Oh wait maybe 10years ago when that picture was taken. Overall I love camp and everything about it but once again CODA fails to see the big "current" picture.

This year will be my 6th and i can't wait.

I have been wait for camp since the day i left.

I have so many friends there that i talk to all the time :)
