MilitaryNotes - Today, February 1st, 2012, the 1st Marine Division celebrated their 71st Anniversary with a colors ceremony at Camp Pendleton, California. Many old veterans who served in "the Old Breed" were present.

The ceremony included the unveiling of a memorial to Marines and Sailors killed in action in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The memorial is a wall bearing the names of 1,146 warriors as of today. The project was started by the Camp Pendleton Rotary Club and eventually many Rotary Clubs across the country contributed to raising $65,000.
