Berlin 1990 - the end of the wall Pt 1

Berlin, July 1990. I'd watched the fall of the wall on TV news the previous December and having visited the city several times in the 1980's I was eager to see what had happened. As it turned out they had finally given up any idea of keeping a divided city shortly before I went over.

Pink Floyd did their "Wall" concert which gave me the second reason for going. This was performed on the old Potsdamer Platz, at the time an area of dead sand within the two walls that made up the "anti fascist protection barrier". Within this death strip was a mound which was the remains of Hitler's bunker. This was removed pretty quickly after the wall fell and is now the site of the holocaust monument.

This is some "home movies" I made at the time with a borrowed VHS camera. It's mostly of the wall and East Berlin.

I went to berlin in '91 and it already changed, but applause to u i would have loved to have been there......whats the music u chose? Its new model army isn't it?

@nicky42002 That was music on Odo's car stereo. I'd been driven around Berlin in cars with good stereos quite a lot in the 1980's! Yeah - New Model Army I think.

i couldn´ t go to berlin those days and i do still regret it. but watching this video, it is like travelling with time. bang, i am back in the amazing year 1990, and because of some people like you, who had the sensivity to feel the big history of that year, it is like to be there by myself!!! i don´ t know how many times i have been watching this, mhh something around 52 times, still get goosebumps. so, at least i want to say THANK YOU!
