  • Chidi is right. Swahili and Kiswahili are the same thing. However, when speaking the language, we never refer to it as Swahili. It is referred to as Swahili when speaking English. Just like you would never refer to Espanol as Spanish when speaking the language. Ex. "Se habla Spanish". That is completely wrong for it should be "Se habla Espanol." So with that said, this guy is wrong. Kiswahili applies to the language as well as the subject.

  • This guy is damn wrong.....Swahili and Kiswahili is the same thing in english its called Swahili and in Swahili its Kiswahili, the first "Ki" means a language nothing else thats y there is Ki-ingereza(english), Ki-china(chneese) this fool doesnt know anything

  • Denzel: Nice analysis of Swahili vs Kiswahili. Just to add to that I would like to say that the Waswahili tribe comes from an offspiring born from an Arab and a Mijikenda. The language spoken by the offspring is Kiswahili. It has also borrowed widely from other cultures that came into contact with the East African coast e.g Portuguese.

Words like Meza (table) is Portuguese while we have Arabic ones like Salaam Aleikum, Dar-es-Salaam, Ashara, Thenashara etc. We also have Swahili slang nowadays.
