Massive over reaction too... Not that i am belittling the dangers here. but 8-10 rounds, that's not an attack, that's a burst to scare them away... they would never have behaved aggressively to them if they hadn't chased them down in the first place. This entire event could have been avoided right from the beginning...

How is it that the crewman who falsely stated that the aircraft was descending was not found guilty of criminal negligence?! He was reporting the complete opposite of what his instruments were actually showing - psychological excuses are irrelevant, his gross incompetence escalated the situation and directly precipitated the deaths of every person aboard that aircraft.
If he had accurately reported the aircraft as continuously ascending, the response would probably have been different.
