This part starts on the Elevala River near Ekame Lodge, and species seen are a well hidden white-bellied thicket-fantail, yellow-bellied longbill, frilled monarch, sacred kingfisher, golden mynah, the remarkable turkey-sized southern crowned-pigeon, dollarbird, a distant male twelve-wired bird-of-paradise on a display pole, blue-breasted pitta, a bower of a flame bowerbird, followed by a still shot as I didn't manage to film it, hooded pitta, and finally the people from the village who showed us the bower and fantastic hospitality. The clip ends with a return to Kiunga and the raggiana bird-of-paradise, and then a team photo before we split up and went our separate ways.
Ah-ha! Always something new to learn!!
TURKEY-sized, that's really hefty for a pigeon!!!
I've seen it on pic's of course, and thought it the size of a ... well... large Columba Pigeon.
Thanks a million for writing that in the info. It looks like a Piping-Guan, eh? Still being a pigeon, though.
Ah well. I'll shut up now and happily go to Part 7.
