Stanford University physicist Leonard Susskind differentiates the theoretical concept of "dark matter" from its somewhat more controversial cousin, "dark energy."

-----

Recognizing a contradiction in Stephen Hawking's claim that things disappear in black holes, Susskind and Gerard t'Hooft offered a counterargument aimed at disproving this controversial theory.

Susskind discusses the story behind the black hole conflict and how it has led to a better idea of how our universe works - The Commonwealth Club of California

Leonard Susskind is a theoretical physics professor at Stanford University in the field of string theory and quantum field theory. Susskind is widely regarded as one of the fathers of string theory for his early contributions to the String Theory model of particle physics.

  • really, youtube, an advertisement about becoming a mormon on a science video? What about putting atheist videos on videos based on religion - oh wait, you can't do that can you?

  • @sandustanBrasov Next time you're going to write a book you might want to do it somewhere else.

  • i feel like he is undermining the immensity of dark matter. comparing it to the fact that neutrinos were once missing matter seems insufficient.

  • @CaptainImpedance That doesn't make any sense. The CMB is everywhere.

  • @TheOvermaster I keep misreading 'Mormons' as 'Morons', but then I realised it doesn't matter, they're both the same thing.

  • They can't "find" dark energy because it's like time, you can't "see" it but you know it's there

  • I take back my defense of this potential energy - the case for its existence seems more a specious filler for balancing gravitational equations, not one based on evidence.

  • Dark matter is 10 to the 25th power gram blackholes. Dark energy is the Gravitational field the the EVent Horizon behind the Cosic microwave Back ground radiation.

  • The video "The Dark Matter Myth" demonstrates mathematically that the Dark Matter is a Myth.

  • Particle physic is nonsense, truth is quantum fluctuations and geometry.

  • "There's no great mystery about (dark particles); it's just the question of detecting them, finding out exactly what they are, and finding out how they fit into our basic, standard model of particle physics."

Um, that sounds like a big mystery to me. Maybe dark matter is permanently opaque and thus cannot be illuminated and is permeable to most forms of radio detection.
