I fell in love with her the first time I saw her in Philly. man I would give anything to have sailed on that ship, but im 16 so I of course never got the chance. but still a ship that had that much meaning doesn't deserve to rot there, as much as i enjoy being able to see her. I hope one day she can be restored, and put back in service.

Does anyone know the status of the ship, right now in 2012?

The state of this ship is an almost perfect analogy for our nation today:
Once proud, charging forward, the pride of our nation and the world.
Now, tied to a dock, going nowhere, hoping that the future may be better.
-
My parents went to Europe on this ship's maiden voyage. I have many color 35M/M xlides of her, that were taken while they were on board.
-
My father was a shipfitter at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company during and after WWII, and helped build the beautiful stacks. I have read a letter he wrote, describing the swimming pool - I believe he said it was of a silver-colored tile, and stunning to see. I certainly hope it can be preserved.

I'm Canadian, and and I support Save the SS United States! It's a beautiful ship!

Does anybody know the name of the song at 0:45?

great video. The SS United States is quite a marvel. She's magnificient. Although i am not American, i still agree this is the greatest ocean liner ever built by the greatest nation on earth. God bless William F. Gibbs and the SS United States, and America.
i have seen her many times when i trucked to philidelphia and everytime i was there in the area of the S.S. United States i just had to tell my customers i'm dropping trailer and driving over there to see her. when i got there it was like seeing a loved one you know very well and you hate to see the condition or even hear someone telling you she has not much time left. and even though i'm 29 she is impressive and it makes me sad to see her slip away like this. and i'll admit i shead a tear

The United States doesn't deserve the scrap yard, to scrap her would be an unforgivable crime against the US as a whole because she bares the name of our nation
