Women's rights groups in Pakistan have welcomed the passing of a bill which will punish those who force women into marriages, or deny them inheritance.

Anyone convicted of forcing a woman into marriage or of receiving her inheritance will be sentenced to prison for 3-10 years or will have to pay a fine of about $6,000, when the Anti-Women's Practices Bill comes into effect.

But rights groups have raised concern about how the amended legislation will be enforced due to the prevailing attitude towards women in the country.

  • Good.

  • This is what the religious extremist groups fear the most. They fear progression out of tradition. And more often than not they will try to use violence to stop change.

  • That is great. In Islamic teachings women are no less than men. More should be done in this regard. Women in Pakistan are very oppressed.

  • religious extremists Mullahs are behind each and every problem in Pakistan. You do something right and they find a verse of the Quran and Interpretate it in such a false way as to declare what you did as haram.

Mr.Salman Taseer who was the sitting governor of Punjab was murdered by his guard because extremist Mullahs had fed in his mind that he has to be killed as he supported a christian women against the blasphemy law.

These extremists need to be hanged in public to set an example.

  • Just curious if women in Pakistan still have to overcome the hurdle of their testimony being considered less than that of a man. I've heard this is the case in many Islamic countries. Anyone know?

  • @philid123 what horrible terminology in respects to a civil rights video, dude. "Faggots"? Really? Jeez...
