They were born in captivity, putting them in the wild is like putting a child in the middle of no where. They don't understand, and aren't used to surviving in the wild.

is that a serious suggestion? thats like giving robbers money just so they dont rob in the future it doesnt solve any long term problems and "the wild will have their SHARE" what do you think these animals are...? chips in a poker game or something? all of these animals should be in the wild its our fault that their numbers are low as they are now due to mass whaling etc... and now we take even more of them away?

The first Shamu was rescued, then breed. So basically, I don't think Seaworld took any Orca randomly out of the wild without it being rescued. :)

i agree whales shouldnt be caught and just put in captivity but if they have been born there then its allright because its more cruel putting them in the wild if they have been born in captivity.

These few whales are going to one day, be the savior of the species. The more people who feel that they have a "personal" connection with these animals, the more people you will have who are inspired to make sure the species never dies out. Because of places like SeaWorld, the whales here in Puget Sound have had the contamination of their water called to attention. People are more likely to care if they feel that they have that "special connection" that they get from marine parks.
