Hey i'll give you 5 bucks for you're jacket what a dumbass

@robcodsall you already put out top dollar for your glass, why would you put a cheap filter in front of it?? i went with a B+W uv haze filter. no complaints here.

Excellent review, many thanks. I have just bought the D700 with a 24-70 lens. Was wondering what your thoughts were with regard to getting a decent lens filter - mainly to protect the front end of the lens but also with regard to cutting out UV haze etc. Is it important to go for a top quality brand like Hoya or B&W?

I guess its ok....BUT... if you are shooting tethered the screen wont show the last shot which is a pain. Also, if you are firewired all the time then at some point you will pull on the firewire (too small and delicate) and either damage the wire or the camera (very expensive). This is not a pro camera for the studio if you move about a bit. After years with a phase one back which is a workhorse...the D700 is a bit of a toy.

Vijjnetting, lol
i'm probably getting the d700 for my birthday, and you helped me decide to choose the 24-70 rather than the 14 to 24. this is good in terms of practicality, but very bad in terms of how impressive the lens looks! no but thanks a lot for the review i appreciate it.
Any advice for a degree student on how to make money through photography part time?

start small, get a portfolio together by shooting friends. Buy yourself an off camera flash (Like SB-800) or two, some umbrellas (transparent) and some cheap light stands. Congrats, you now have a small mobile studio. Eventually you can buy more gear, charge more and get better results... congrants on getting the 24-70... great piece of glass, probably my most versatile and favourite!
