SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — A stalled wildfire roared back to life Wednesday as gusting winds swooped down from mountains behind the city, pushing flames toward neighborhoods below and sending a plume of smoke out to sea.

  • Yep, MONEY...most don't have the money to fireproof their homes and a lot are just renters. and no one wants to pay more taxes... I guess the thing to do is just move off the hills and out of california.. So if you stay here, you just take the risk

  • YES RIDICULOUSLY POORLY EQUIPPED .

WHAT THEY HAVE AMOUNTS TO BUCKETS AND GARDEN HOSES FOR THE SIZE ,LOCATIONS AND THE SPEED THESE FIRES CAN MOVE.

    THE FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

the helicopters and planes they have now are a joke[YES WE NEED 30/40 747 SIZE PLANES THAT CAN CARRY 10X MORE THAN THE JUNK THEY HAVE NOW] and any house can be made fire resistant without spending to much money..

    GOT MORE EXCUSES?

  • poorly equipped? we have over 200 firetrucks 10 water dropping planes and countless helicopters working on it.. how equipped can you get?... oh and you just build fireproof homes when the house has already been there for 30 years..747 water tanker? are you nuts? but i hear what you are saying. Something needs to be done better

  • another display of a poorly equipped fire department.

maybe they should be called FIRE WATCHING DEPARTMENT..

    STUPID GOVERNMENT.

    BUILD FIREPROOF HOMES

AND HAVE A REAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH 747 size water tankers and heavy helicopters . a lot of them and there you have it ---fire out in minutes .

maybe the fire department would have less to do and the union would be against something so simple and efficient...or is it just incompetence?
