there an alien animal the combine "modified" now there called Synths the combine remove there lower gaw, gentils, and some skin and add armor , weapons , and some devices that control them if u look at a picture of ingame theres collars on there legs.

synths are part robotic but striders are alive but dont have free will they have controling collars look at there legs
