Orwell was wrong, the reason that 1984 it is still so well known today is because how much is scares people. Government or corporate control over reality could never reach Orwellian proportion, it is not humanly possible. Human governments are too incompetent, they can't handle how many people pay taxes or how many are here legally. Do you really think they could control your very thoughts next? Its ridiculous, Orwell just though this was were things were headed because of the time he lived in.

Have you read his 'Homage to Catalunia'? It a great book about his time in the Spanish civil war,

there he talks about the influence of the party propaganda, the Spanish newspapers and the newspapers in other countries in the perception of what was happening, and to an extent the outcome of the war.
