  • Thanks for posting Monique :-)

This IS, like my sister said, the ONLY visual recording that we have of him :-(

If he had lived past the 90's, there would have been so many more I am sure, with cams fiiming so many concerts and operas. I saw his last opera with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra, Carmen, around 1996. He died of cancer 3 years later. It is sad how the "greats" of the past are now forgotten since they didn't have "YouTube" to live on...our memories of him will die with us...

  • That's my father conducting! It's the only video recording I know of him conducting and this one is so special too. Thank you so much for posting!

  • Bearing in mind that this is the one and only Horne we're talking about, this is definitely not up to the standards. Janet Baker was waaay better in this song cycle.

  • I like the faster tempo here. I agree with the diction problem, though. On the whole - very nice!

  • "was?" still is!

  • I can only agree with franrat; substandard Horne, substandard Berlioz.

  • omg this is awful. the diction has to be good for these songs and her french has always non descript - to say the least - and its way too fast.

can we forget it and please check regine crespin and janet baker

  • I sang this with orchestra in college. I love this song cycle so much.

    Thank you very much
