This is cool man, it tought me some cool new techniques. I just wish it was possible to do this kind of thing for game modelling (where it has to be 1 closed mesh with nothing intersecting). Things seem to so much more confusing when everything has to be a single object, and attaching them doesn't work cos you still get intersecting elements.

thanks for the tut,pressing the shift key while converting poly selection to edge will only select the outline edges and not the interiors,also when u aligned the rivet to the cylinder using the align tool u can also align it left with respect to z and not just moving the rivet to penetrate it,
and there are lots of ways in which we can rivet the given object
hey if u please make tut on different rollout menus within the spacing tool,like the free centre and so on options,thats typical!

thanks for this tutorial, mr bluesummers :) got a question: what program/codec do u use for screen capturing? i got snagit but it cant record bigger resolution than 500x500 on divx :S

I use CamStudio with their proprietary lossless codec. It's a free program that's...just so great. The only down-side, as you can tell, is that on Vista it borks the cursor.
