In August of each year, Kerala celebrates rice harvest and one of the magnetic events at that time is the world renowned snake boat race, perhaps worlds longest such row boats each could carry up to a hundred rowers at a time. At full oar thrust, these boats skim across monsoon swelled lakes of Kerala like a bullet....this is a practice session

  • Who ever made the commentary does not know that these canoes were PADDLED, not rowed. A common error by the uninformed. Such craft are also used in southeast Asia on the Mekong River and on the Tonley Sap, the canoes are paddled by men standing up with one leg wrapped around the paddle. This is what makes the study of these watercraft around the world so fascinating. Ralph Frese, Chicagoland Canoe Base
