I just found the Nambassa book in a second hand shop in Hokatika yesterday... im going to take some of the inspiration from this festival to Luminate 2012 in January.. Luminate is the modern version of this spiritual festival.. check it out on goggle, luminate.. end of January Takaka Hill, canaan Downs, new Zealand
@brettfitzpatrick hey Brett...Fred here...are you on facebook...what you up to these days? Still see Mike, he lives around the corner from me...you know Ted died, a couple of years ago now, very sad.
Holy crap that's our Dad at 2min10sec!!! I was only a few months old, but that is definately our Dad! And Mum made him those clothes! Far out! Awesome!
I was 9 and it was a real eye opener, all that nudity! I rememember being at the stage when The Plague took the stage. It was really funny, everyone instantly moved closer to get better look. I was with some friends who were my age, they decided to take off all their clothes and unsuccessfully encouraged me to as well. My dad lifted me and my brother up and sat us on the stage when The Little River Band were playing. A truly magical event which opened my young eyes, thanks to all involved.
I was 18 and while the culture of the festival and it's back to basics philosophy escaped me at the time, it was none the less a watershed event in my life. I still have the book and pleasant memories of a festival the likes of which will never be seen again on this planet. A small thank you to the miracle that is the internet for allowing us to share and relive what may otherwise be consigned to the dusty backrooms of history.
