@Pkingpro1 the laws aroung here in SD for deer is 40 lbs, i would also have to agree with bobbymichew that 40 lbs is a good starter for a 12 year old

how much poundage for deer

@Pkingpro1 40 pounds will a deer and more than likely put a hurtin on a ram. i shoot 55 pounds and killed a lot deer with my bow.

@Pkingpro, i shoot a 52 pound draw weight with crimson talon broadheads. i shot three deer this year with complete pasthroughs! however my brother is using the same setup only with 35 pounds and also got comlete pas throughs. but i agree if you can pull 40, start with that
A very nice shot, im only 12, and im looking forward to going hunting sometime soon, Would anyone happen to know what poundage I would need on my Matthews Mission with a slicktrick broadhead to get a kill on either a boar, deer, or ram?
Thanks.

@Pkingpro1 Texas had a law for a long time that bows had to be at least 40 lbs to hunt with. They did away with the law last year, but I still think 40 is a good minimum weight. But a razorsharp broadhead and good shot placement are just as important as draw weight. Good luck!
