Grappelli recorded a solo for the title track of Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here. This was made almost inaudible in the mix, and so the violinist was not credited, according to Roger Waters, as it would be "a bit of an insult". (wikipedia)

Why these days we can't have such an genius musicians?

The annoying "fiddle" ruined this version. They definitely chose the better version decades ago. The original version accurately conveys the theme of the song: longing. The fiddle in this version is way too perky and dissonant (and irritating). If the fiddle can be deleted and the guitar solos from the PULSE live version added, then I would actually prefer this 3-part version:-). Having said all that, I still like it (just not like the original).

I see why they left the violin out...

@lilstol that's because i'm pretty sure it's just released

So much better!
My favorite song of all time just got a little bit better.

This version as it was recorded weeks ago, and not almost 35 years ago... this is the clear example why the Pink Floyd was way way ahead from music industry at that time... simply incredible :)
