Racist? Watermelon Soda Sold In Target

One of our producers visited this Target on 225th St., in New York City and made an interesting discovery. In the beverage aisle he found this soda with a black girl eating watermelon on a can. It reminded us of the caricatures of America's racist past.

We took to Target's parking lot and in front of their store to poll customers. We showed them historic Picaninny images then revealed this product and how it can be found on shelves right now at their local Target.

the makers of this soda probably thought "if we put a white kid on the can, it won't be racist." personally, i don't think it is racist.

HOWEVER, the makers of the soda must BE OUT OF THEIR MINDS to think it wouldn't be "touchy". for fucks sake, little black children eating watermelon was a very common in advertising back in the day, and is still fresh on everyone's mind. how could they NOT think this would be an issue?

I know this is real upsetting to black folks because of the picture... however, they would probably be inclined to try it when no one is looking and once they take a taste, they won't care anymore, they'll fall in love!

I do think there is some humour in the soda. It's really funny that they think that it's "ok" to have the black kid eating the watermelon because they have a white kid doing the same thing on the back. How stupid do they think people are?

To all those African American folks out there...I can't believe this stuff still happens. I just can't get my head around it. Really sorry you have to put up with this garbage. Shame, shame target...I'm not shopping at your store any more!

Black women have arses I want to warm with my mouth, black guys have the biggest dicks, black people are the best sprinters, long distance runners, black people are prevalent as fuck in the athletic world. Stereotypes. Liking watermelon is a neutral stereotype, it's not derogatory. The caricature was LIKE the old racist ones but it WASN'T.
