I had the opposite problem for a long time. For years if I did not know what to say I would clam up. If you couldn't see me you would not know I was there. But eventually I matured and got better at conversation. When I got nervous I would say little. But as I got older this problem seemed to improve. I am no longer nearly as nervous when I am with people I do not know. My sister in law was the complete opposite. When she got nervous she talked non stop.

I don't believe this is true. I believe other research has shown that men speak more amongst other men at work. But overall during the day men speak more words in the day. However when men and women interact the woman who speaks more.
