I think you are confused: the festival was mostly one big rock festival with many name bands, which is what drew the people to the event. The festival was meant to mark a very special solstice. Maharaji had just come to England, his first trip out of India, and he was given the opportunity to speak at the event. He was not telling anyone to do drugs, but the opposite - to go inside and experience the beauty within.

Amazing to see that 12 year old boy, just out of India, speak with such conviction and simplicity. Many outward things have changed, but Maharaji's message is constant and true..."what you are looking for is within you and I can show you." I love you, Maharaji, thank you for everything!

I've been to Glastonbury Tor but I've never walked up to it at dawn, lovely scenes. In 1971 the stoned-out hippies trying to construct the pyramid stage in a force 10 gale probably didn't know the concept of health and safety!

@kuuipo0913 ev3ery one has said that for thousands of years. What makes hims so special?

Nice to see JG bennett making an appearance!

He arrived into a mad storm of concepts and brought real peace and real love. the effect was tangible, even the next day a feeling of peace still prevailed.
It's not just then - he still has that effect to this day.

In the midst of all that , what I remember most about that event in71' is a "Jesus freak" stopping by our tent and talking about Jesus being The Way, The Truth and The Life and that our peace with God was bought with his ife. Thank you whoever you were.

Amongst the playful madness Prem Rawat brought clarity and continues to do so for me in such a "practical, user friendly" way! Thank you for gift of self awareness my dear friend shown to me 34 years ago because it just seems to get better and better!
And thank you ITISTV for posting the vid too :)

the rating 'minus one' would also be a personal opinion.. wouldnt it? ratings only reflect wat public thinks.. nothing as such a compulsion

magnanimous mind and powerful expression with clarity!
This comment has received too many negative votes show
this really massages the truth.
When this kid appeared at Glastonbury he was worshipped by a few, derided by a fair few more - but the vast majority (me included) were stood there, bored, waiting for him to shut up and for them to get some music on.
It was definitely not a mosh pit of hare krishna dancers.
I heard him speak - and 36 years later I still think he's a boring twat stating the obvious!

Yeah this was taken straight from the original film. I was a kid when all this good shit was appening. Shame that so many of the people of that time have become SO cynical and 'boring' Life is magic - you have to let the magic in our you die.
