The US was basically trying to take the place of the French, who could no longer control Indochina. The containment policy of the Truman administration continued, but did not work the same way like it did in Korea. The CIA globally was harming other countries, we cannot ignore this.

CIA documents prove that they wanted war with Vietnam. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was purposefully instigated. Vietnamese never flew planes into the the World Trade Center or attacked Pearl Harbor. The Vietnam War had nothing to do with liberating a people it was about a US attempt at imperialism in Indochina.
