In this episode of cool chemistry, we make incredibly pure oxygen from potassium permanganate. We were kind of desperate for a video idea, so the book in the background IS an experiment book, but we modified the experiment a little.

  • dumb arses! its not like you can die from breathing pure oxygen !?!?!?

  • @tim0090 @sjones9079

We know not to breathe the product of this reaction, and we know that pure oxygen is not safe to inhale, the test tubes we breathed out of at the end were not used at all in the experiment at all, it was kind of a stupid joke, sorry for the confusion!

  • Great Job and it nice to see kids get involved with science just be careful. Note that Potassium Permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent and according to toxicology from msds: Toxicology

Harmful if swallowed. Irritant. Readily absorbed through skin.

Probably not a good idea to smell the product of your reaction due to the fact that it is never a 100% complete reaction and you might be breathing in KMnO4 vapor.

  • Ignore my previous comment! Good video!
