One of the more stylish of the local Carolinas Beach Music groups of the sixties was the Monzas from Burlington, NC, if for no other reason than they actually had some female vocalists which was rather unique for the time. The gals were Linda "Quig" Quinlan and Sharon Hinshaw; the lead vocal on this song, written by Salty Miller, also a member of the group, was done by Mickey Combs. Mickey and Sharon's brother Skip Hinshaw, also a member of the Monzas, both ultimately ended up with the In-Men, Ltd., "Hey, I Know You" is the song the Monzas will best be remembered for.

  • This is great! Who did it?

    Quig

  • I did and I hope you didn't mind my "borrowing" a few pictures to do it....Lanny (Nocaro)....Raleigh, NC

  • Linda...by the way, if you would prefer to do one on your own, I'd be happy to take this down...let me know....Nocaro

  • Linda...as a further explanation, and you deserve one, I grew up in Greensboro and was graduating from high school there at about the time you cut this record.

I worked as a dj in Raleigh for a while during the 1970's and was also employed by the now "famous" WRDX out of Salisbury when it was the ONLY totally beach music FM radio station in the US.

If you'll take a look at my YouTube Channel, you'll notice I've also given some world-wide exposure to quite a few "local" bands.

  • FYI Skippy did not sing on Hey I Know You. Mickey Combs is the lead on both cuts of HIKY. Now tell me how I get to your other videos and such

  • Linda...thanks for the correction and as I recall Mickey and Skip were both involved with the In-Men...correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Never knew there were two versions. Wow! Which came first?

  • A local Dj in the Uk spins this out as a northern soul newie.

  • That is right. So did Johnny Andrews our guitar player, who died this past year from cancer and COPD.

  • I would love to look at others, how do I get there. My best friend lives in Raleigh. Her husband is Howard Eaton orig. with the InMen, now with the Attractions. I sing with them sometimes.

  • Noooooooooo, I don't want to do one/ don't know how. Glad for people like you.

  • One of my all time favorites in blue eyed soul songs. A truly timeless selection in the soundtrack of my life. Thanks for adding it to Youtube.
