Guam- It's a common fact that recycling paper has reached a few roadblocks on Guam. The only recycling company that accepted these products can longer ship it off island due to economic woes. Now, most if not all that wasted paper, is going to the Ordot Dump. However, the Department of Agriculture has a way to inspire people to recycle paper, simply by giving it back to nature.
The number to call the Department of Agriculture for mulching paper is (671) 734-3946. For more tips on how to recycle, visit www.guamepa.net.
Shredded paper products are fine, but why make unsupported statements about natural wood chips? Both have an important role in management of Guam farming systems. Bark mulch will not acidify the soil around crop plants to a point to cause problems for crop plants. Bark mulch and wood chips are slow to break down and thus you will need to add mulch less frequently. Both materials have a place. It is not either or, it is what is best for the plant and site and landowner/operator.

I use newspaper for mulch all the time. Bark mulch puts acid in the soil and doesn't decay well.
