I've always wondered whats the difference between fire uniforms?? Some have yellow, some have black, whats the difference? also the hats, I've noticed sometimes the helmets are different colors?

its420fresh: In the 1970's Nomex (flameproof) material was introduced into the fire service and only came in the tan color which was used for coats and pants. Prior to that most fire gear was black. Later a black Nomex material was introduced and many departments are going back to the black coats and pants. (departments choice)
Firefighter's helmets come in black or yellow. Captains wear red and chiefs wear white helmets. (departments choice).
