The MIDI file of my piano solo from this video along with a PDF transcription and backing track file are all available on my website at http://www.Lot2learn.com

Is it brotherly love or sibling rivalry? Whatever it is, Dave and Don Grusin have created some fantastic music over the years. This is one of my favorites by Don and I finally took the time to learn this delightful song.

In performing this tune, I have dispensed with the 16 bar intro and just started right in on the "A" section. This composition has many intricacies which I have not incorporated in my arrangement although I have given a "nod" here and there to the original arrangement.

This is such a fun tune to improvise over because the C minor pentatonic works so well over the "A" section and also part of the "B" section. Instead of doing an extended improvisation over the "B" section like on the original song, I have chosen to do my long improvisation at the end of the song over the "A" section. If you can make it through until the end of the piece, I've done a nice little Latin thing which is my favorite part.

As always, there is a Lot2learn and thanks for listening.

  • @lucasnovel Thank you Luciano, I appreciate your comment!

  • I have a lot to learn indeed, but I can't resist asking: the second chord you play is tagged as an A-7b5, but you're playing a G-C#-F in the left hand. How is that remotely anything like an A-7b5??

  • @fxdlriderny Sorry about the confusion - it's a typo. The chord being played is an A Major Dominant Seventh chord with a flat 13. ;-)

  • You're just perfect!

  • @louli58 I appreciate your comment - thanks!
