There's an Occupy movement down the street from my old house (i just moved) and someone made a sign that had written on it "The average white man has more in common with the average black man than with the average rich man" I wish i had taken a picture of it, it could be my Avatar.

@dezinediva Well that's the proper attitude to have. The rich elite in power want poor blacks and poor whites to keep hating each other. That way, they're too busy hating each other to go grab a piece of the American dream, and allow the rich to keep getting richer. Americans spend more time finger pointing than they do learning.

@dezinediva The number 4749 actually comes from the Tuskeegee Institute, a prominent black University, not from some whitewashed text book. Do I think the number is EXACTLY right? Of course not. There's always a margin of error, but it's a close estimate.

Just google "The Tuskeegee Institute: Lynchings in America" and read for yourself. I'd never used whitewashed text books to back up statistics.

@BoSoxnation1972 I dont buy it. I grew up in an all white town, and didnt even KNOW that my skin color made me different. My best friend from elementary and middle school was a little girl with the last name of Corcoran. Most of my friends were white in fact. Most black people dont even know what plantation they came from, and what part of africa or tribe they came from before even slavery. CONT

In fact i am not certain i even met one white person whose ancestors owned slaves. The more people you know the more you will realize that clearly someoen out there wants us to all beleive the others are seething racists, who hate us dearly. CONT

while many of ur points are valid, here's the issue. First, there were way more than 4700 lynchings, have you ever heard of the great Betrayal of 1776, or Black Wall Street? Beyond that, do you really think the official number is actually correct or that this info wld be accurately reported on? I doubt that when right now they are lying about the number of unemployed people in the US.

(cont) the people are divided. Slavery is a very divisive issue too. Blacks look at white people as descendants from slave owners. Yet, at the height of slavery, only 1.4% of whites even owned slaves! It was mostly white men who fought to abolish slavery!

Millions of more whites descend from European ancestors who immigrated to Ellis Island long after slavery was abolished. All 4 of my grandparents were born in Ireland, and came here between 1909-1927. Nobody in my family ever owned a slave.
