German journalist Philip Winter has a case of writer's block when trying to write an article about the United States. He decides to return to Germany, and while trying to book a flight, encounters a German woman and her nine year old daughter Alice doing the same. The three become friends (almost out of necessity) and while the mother asks Winter to mind Alice temporarily, it quickly becomes apparent that Alice will be his responsibility for longer than he expected. After returning to Europe, the innocent friendship between Winter and Alice grows as they travel together through various European cities on a quest for Alice's grandmother.

I felt that his observation that TV is one big commercial for the status quo was an excellent point. It's there to wipe out the idea that there can be any other way for the world to be organized. It's hard to change things if you can't imagine anything different. And his observation that none of the images leave you satisfied was also spot on. The last thing an advertiser wants is a satiated desire.

Yes - it's absurd pretensions used to have a sort of curious entertainment value? Now they have become as dull as ditch-water. Whenever they pointlessly make some war up, their crazyness becomes something to ignore at all costs, threatening as such perverted psychopathy can seem to be, they some run out of gas, and sit & cry - blaming everyone else for their own stupidity?
