  • No, it's in C major. The A on this instrument is tuned to 415 KHz rather than our modern standards of 440KHz, so it sounds shifted down a half step.

  • Absolutely wonderful... and brings back such memories. Like most organists, this was one of the first Bach organ pieces I learned so many years back.

  • @Renshen1957 So in short, you're saying that this is atypical of Bach, therefore it can't be Bach.

  • @ccoraxfan (cont'd) As so many of Bach's keyboard work exist in Kreb's handwriting (Bach's Organ surviving autograph manuscript are as rare as hen's teeth, the majority exist in student copies) and J. T. Krebs has the work attributed to him as the most likely author or put in another way, J S Bach isn't the author. The work is atypical compared to even Bach's earliest pieces for Organ or his student pieces, the Organ Trios for example.

  • @ccoraxfan Too much evidence to point as to the works not being by Bach. Speerstra, Vogel, Alfred Duerr, et al noted the Clavichord (non-organ) traits of the work: rolling of large chords, octave doublings between left hand and pedal, and repeated notes are idiomatic on the clavichord but make little sense on the organ. Krebs was a student of Bach & Walter, source of the earliest copies of Bach's keyboard work, main copyist of the manuscript complex P 801-3, Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin

  • @Renshen1957 Why? Did they find Krebs' signature erased with Bach's written over it?

  • I am so glad I was able to hear this piece on a clavichord, with pedal!!! I also play organ. Thank you for sharing such wonderful music!

  • @fordtruxdad And now the Short Preludes and Fugues are attributed to Krebs.

  • What a wonderful instrument. I absolutely love the pedal clavichord! I also appreciate the tempo. It seems that most performers are in such a rush to finish a piece of music, its great to hear someone slow it down for once.

  • wonderful!

  • Well, most of the interpretations here on You tube are to fast... waaaaaaay too fast!
