You will need:

10 chicken drum sticks

2 lumps chicken buillon or chicken stock cubes

1 pint buttermilk

5 butter sized packets of lard

300 grammes plain flour

1/2 tea spoon Garlic powder
2 table spoons dried Parsley
1 tea spoon salt
1/2 tea spoon cayenne powder
1/2 tea spoon black pepper
1/2 tea spoon Thymme

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

step1:

put all the chicken drumsticks into a sauce pan and cover with water, add the 2 cubes of chicken buillon and bring to the boil. Now turn down the light and simmer for 25 minutes. Remove any foam off the top of the water throughout the cooking process.

step2:

using a spoon with slots or holes, remove the chicken pieces from the water and place onto a plate, transfer the plate to the refridgerator for half hour to cool.

step3:

add mushrooms, potatoes, a sliced red pepper, and 3 sliced carrots to the water, cover and simmer for half an hour. Liquidize this soup and serve as a starter... delicious bonus extra ;-)

step4:

put the flour into a bowl and add all the seasonings, mix well with a whisk.

step5:

submerge the chicken into the buttermilk, then dip into the flour mixture to fully coat each piece of chicken.

step6:

add the lard to a deep frying pan and melt allowing the fat to get nice and hot.

step7:

add 2 pieces of chicken to the fat and fry for two minutes. Then remove the two pieces and place onto a plate that has kitchen tissue paper on to drain any excess fat.

Repeat process 7 until all your chicken drumsticks are cooked and then serve.

Hope you enjoy my Kentucky style friend chicken. Any comments or suggestions most welcome. Hope you enjoyed my litle video :))

  • I really don't get what all the "bashing" is about, so I have to admit it's a clever idea of using the stock and make it a starter soup, gonna use that tip, thanx!

  • @Ylokau sorry for the delay in replying, I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe, sorry it looks a bit crumby, it tastes better than it looks, thank you once again ^_^
