Born in AV and I sure do miss the way it was before all the idiots moved in, turned natural surroundings into housing developments and some how out lawed off roading with no respect or regard for the valleys history. Yes, it burns, floods, snows, wicked thunderstorms, and 100mph winds are not uncommon. There's a reason we built our houses where we did 30 years ago, to get away from you people!

What did they have on their stream? What station was this.?

Yeah when my dad was coming from work and when he was near Elizabeth road he said that no one was there combating the fire, it wasn't until night time that they started fighting it.
But yeah since I live in Rancho Vista we had to evacuate like two times, one of them was last night and the other was today on Friday July 30th. The deputies from the sheriff's department basically told us to leave it was that bad.

Do you always carry a sharpie?

@xnod I have no idea what the problem is there. I worked at KUTY and KBVM which is long gone. Seems like it is and has been a transistion market and so very close to LA. KAVL use to do a rather good job with local news. But Radio has changed so much and AM Radio is really not listened to much any more. I could spend hours explaining this. But will not. I left there to go to KGIL in San Fernando. But it is really neat to meet someone living down that way. I have retired after 37.
an important thing to note here, wildland firefighters would be on the other side of that hill, battling a fire downhill is basically a suicide mission, the job is to contain and fireproof already affected areas, until the fire becomes small enough to manage. the firefighters would be on the backside of the fire moving up the sides to keep it from spreading with change in wind direction.

@k6tpl Very frustrating. KFI was the only radio station I could find offering a degree of coverage. Is anybody even broadcasting out of the AV (by which I mean original content, not simulcasting). We don't have broadcast TV. The internet was not a good source of current information under the circumstances. This community could be much better served with respect to emergency information.
Don't get me wrong -- it seems the actual firefighting effort has been top notch.
