No other word for Ian but ARTIST. Still working on a literary appreciation article for the serious academics. Better geter done while we see the grass from the sunjny side.

@BarrelRacingAngle Hmmmm... you wouldn't happen to have a big bay horse called "Rolling Sun" would you?
-
I lived two blocks from Charle Russell's house and studio in Great Falls. His magic is truly timeless.
-
@Garpinator yes because he was a gifted sculptor and painter. so Ian is saying that God gave montana to these men but Charlie gto his greated gift to be abel to paint and sculpt it all

I have a friend named Charlie Russell. my daddy asked me if he was a cowboy artist lol

A nice live version of this song... but it's called "The Gift" even though it is about Charlie Russell.

Back when I first heard this on Cowboyography it made me look up Charlie Russell's art and story (not much "web" back then - my original copy of the album was on vinyl). A wonderful discovery and connection (I had seen some of his art before but really did not know the story).
I have followed Ian since "Four Strong Winds" was "born" - just keeps getting better

I grew up listening to this over and over again. Montana was always just as he describes, and my memories of its beauty and people are fresh with his every word. CMR would be proud of this portrait. In charge of Montana sunsets indeed.

the real title of this song is the gift
I LOVE IAN! There is no storyteller on earth that can match that man's ability to paint a picture with words and music!
