I've trained BJJ and definitely prefer it over wrestling. But wrestling is just as good of a base for a MMArtist.
There are a ton of great fighters who got their starts as wrestlers.
Obviously you need to know both. If all you can do is wrestle. Good grapplers will sub you easily, and you'll have trouble sweeping and transitioning. You also eliminate submissions from your repertoire.
Good wrestling lets you control where the fight goes. Look at GSP, he takes the fight where he wants to.
Your intitle to your opinion , but i dont think so . I have grappled with alot of people who wrestle. I have found out that they have alot of flaw witch jiu jitsu exposes . Such as rear naked choak and ancle locks .
i think wrestling is just as important if not more important that jiu-jitsu. look at fighters like matt hughes... he's dominated a lot of good jiu-jitsu fighters with just strong wrestling and ground-n-pound. another example would be randy couture. also, wrestling is what puts you into positions to submit people... you can have the best jiu-jitsu in the world but if a wrestler is always puting you to your back and not letting u get your guard... your jiu-jitsu is useless.
Wrestling changes when you have to add strkes and submission. We have guys come in from the U of M wrestling team who can take sherk down, Until we add strikes then Sherk takes them down at will.

I'd like to see some wrestling takedowns if you have any.
