Replace all the flashy SFX of the new series with classic series ones and you kinda realize that the new series really doesn't have much in the way of story, especially when RTD is in charge. Moffat's doing a great job but the last Christmas special and Planet of the Dead were incredibly two-dimensional.
They need to start making multi-parters again.

I guess I am an old style person but I wish they would bring the faces back to the opening titles of the new series...just doesnt seem the same...

Time Tunnel Turning.

I so wish they'd reinstate the 'face' section of the opening; a great tradition

I like seeing the Doctor's face in the intro. Too bad the new producers do not.

Nice job. That's the way it SHOULD be... with the Doctor's face in every intro. That's what makes Doctor Who, pure Doctor Who. Can't beat old school. lol

@sixstanger00 and btw, RTD turned down Keith Temple's original draft for "Planet of the Ood," because Davies felt that it was too "classic Doctor Who," and thought that it sounded too much like a "classic six-part serial." I think the writers have their roots in the classic series, but RTD just butchered their scripts in order to fit his modern-day Twilight themed vision for Doctor Who. Thankfully, Moffat had Troughton's era in mind when he took over, and it shows.

@Takeshi357 I agree. Moffat has done better at toning down the "balls to the wall" pacing of 45 min episodes that RTD seemed hell bent on having (people running and screaming all the time, explosions, zooming spaceships and 60% CGI). Moffat limited the use of CGI in Series 5, and focused more on giving us more in depth stories. However, Doctor Who storylines were just meant to be spread over multiple parts, so yeah...bring back the serial format!

make a Christopher Eccleston starfield titles!

@Takeshi357 Agreed 100% Bring on the weekly cliffhangers!!! And multi-part stories would allow plots to not have to be rushed like they sometimes are....for example, Victory of the Daleks would have made a terrific 4 parter.

Christopher Eccleston sucks Tommy Baker rules

Two of the biggest things that the new series has that is "typical of a modern sci-fi series" is a) the pre-title sequences and b) season-long story arcs. The new 45 minute format DOES NOT WORK for Who. Story arcs, character development, and the central plots all have to be crammed into single episodes, so the quantity of each has to be less. Thus, makes for a bland episode.
Besides, there is continuity story-wise. Its mostly references, but its there. To be fair, these are the same complaints that fans of the show were making years ago.

Spot on there! The story continiuity is fine as is the new theme and title sequence (apart from the logo!) - these remixes are just a bit of fun!
