  • Yes, when it comes to these 4 theorists, ,it kind of throws the addage (philosophy is a kind of intelectual common sence) out the window...It makes me think(off the top of my head)that we get all our laws from our rulers and they claim to be ordained by god and god gives us rules and these become laws and then ways and patterns to live. Basically, we are completely corrupt and many people are taught the rules and others are taught to rule...

  • I'm not sure if it's as easy as that. I certainly don't think rights are abitrary (i.e. decided by rulers), at least not in public conscience- otherwise regime change wouldn't be protested so vehemently. As for the assertion that rulers claim to be ordained by God, I don't think it's widely used. George Bush is a possible example, but look at the ridicule he got- it's just not widely believed (in western democracy at any rate).
