@JoeShmoe65x2 The "nuclear threat" is to Israel, not the US, but of course it's never put that way in the mainstream media, owned by.....well, you figure it out.

Like the American Empire is the big bully. It's not even hiding it any more. It's one thing to bully an ill behaving bordering country. But this time it's playing with fire. China is on their best manners but I sense they are getting annoyed. Probably Russia too and India.too. You're right, as the oil passes the peak and recedes, it'll get ugly. Too much keeping up appearances and not changing them.

@FeelFreeToArgue Zach, that would be a logical and reasonable approach, which is why it isn't happening. The powers that be have truly taken leave of all sense and reason. I guess they figure if WWIII doesn't succeed in bringing the world into tyranny, peak oil will do it later. They never do anything without a plan, as disgusting and evil as their plans always seem to be.

@55ella2007k It's a shame, really. The answers are really not that hard. A little bit taken away from screwing the earth and all it's inhabitants would make a huge difference. The only thing stopping it is a bunch of rich, amoral bastards that are profiting from things exactly as they are. That, and lack of imagination.

@pretorious700 True, most don't. If more people knew what we did to Mosaddegh I think we'd be having a more mature conversation about Iran right now. You can say Americans are stupid, but the history of CIA involvement in Iran isn't taught in the schools or talked about in the media so it's hard for them not to be.

@sndnfry Got the time wrong by a couple of years, was in college - don't know why I said 17 - wasn't that advanced - lol. And rhetoric is an academic degree - it's the study of persuasion, mostly in politics and advertising. It falls under communication analysis, but it's an classic field of study, goes back to the ancient Greeks.
I agree with you that our beef with Iran is more to do with oil than it is nuclear weapons, however I would argue it has just as much to do with the way they sell their oil. They stopped selling their oil in dollars a while back just as Venezuela did. Surprise surprise they're both on the naughty list! Thank God I'm retiring from the military! Iran is one place I haven't been and don't want to go to!

@JoeShmoe65x2 If the Quds is any indication, the Iranian forces are very intelligent & well prepared. There is a reason US military are donating to Ron Paul more than anyone else - most people who might actually get sent to Iran if there is war would rather not, & w/ good reason. Iran's military is fully modern, even if it's far smaller than ours, and I'm sure they have some surprises up their sleeve if it gets to full military conflict. We don't want to find out what those are.

@Z200a Sort of the reverse of the headless horseman: a pumpkin with a human head.
