Shows how to build a propane injection kit to use on a diesel for less than 150 bucks! I used parts from ebay, a local rv store and Ace Hardware.

The system has been set up for a power increase, so when you hit the switch, it really sets you back. Some friends of mine have the factory built systems and have them set a little lower.

They claim the mileage increase is the best single thing they have done for their trucks and that it far outweighs the cost of the propane.

As I said before, this propane injection system is set up closer to the max you would want to add, and it increases the horsepower by probably about 100 I'm guessing.

The Superchips Max Microtuner that is installed in the truck is supposed to add about 50-70 horses depending on which setting you use. Flipping the propane switch adds a lot more than that by feel. I rarely ever use the thing, but almost every year, I go down to Bandimere Speedway for truck fest and have some fun.

The best times I've got with this old truck, fuel tank, tool box and all was in the high 15's. Not bad for an 8,000lbs beast with almost 200K!!

  • do u still have an emergency on off switch in the cab

  • I have a toggle switch that controls the solenoid valve at the tank.

  • nice. do you think this wil work on my 110cc pit bike if i use a normal 1liter propane burner

  • I'm sure it would work, but there would not be a lot of gas in a I liter bottle, I used a 20# gas grill bottle

  • hank hill will be proud.

  • This is nearly similar to the lean-burn process for dual fuel engines. I like the ingenuity :) You need to make sure you use solid pipe, and incorporate a flashback arrestor and/or a bursting disc. This will help prevent an explosion in the bottle if anything goes wrong. I really liked this video :)

  • Would it be possible/smart to set this up so when you floor the accelerator or get it to a certain point, the solenoid opens up? (instead of having a switch)

  • @kctyphoon You have to put a controler.50$.

  • @eddie100 Gasoline is much more dangerous!

    I use to drive CNG vehicle,big 3 axles truck,for 6 years.

It is just idiotism to stay on gasoline at this price...

  • Adding LPGas to diesel engines has been done in Australia for years. You replace about 25% of the diesel with LPGas, and that acts like a cataylist - much better burning of the diesel, so no smoke out the exhaust and more power. Diesel in Aus is $1.50/lt and LPgas is 70c/lt at the pump (yes we have LPGas pumps at gas stations), so you save about 10-15% on your fuel bill with better power and reduced emissions.

  • Nice work. I'm also studying LPG fuel systems to learn more about how the propane is vaporized before it enters the engine. With much more heat ie 400 to 440 degrees Fahrenheit, I may be able to vaporize liquid gasoline before it enters the combustion chamber. My research indicate vaporizing gasoline inside the combustion chamber is one of the least efficient ways provide motive force. Great video, thank you for posting this video up.

  • Hi I am Hank Hill and I sell propane and propane accessories, nice setup.

  • hahaha.........He said Unit..........

  • @Eddie100. Early drag racing was nothing but guys tinkering with things they didn't understand, but look what it led to today. If you don't tinker that's fine but don't assume your the genius in the room because you don't

  • @Peterthegreatest. It's a diesel engine if it is back firing through the intake it has a lot bigger problems than the homemade propane kit.

  • Do you people have any respect for the explosive capacity of what you are messing with? Many people have been victims of tinkering, so that we can have Standards as to who can and how we modify cars. I don't want to crush the inventive, but these vehicles are on the road and may contain children. I only had to see one video of a home done gas conversion, with a gas leak, the father lighting a cigarette and the car igniting and family perishing with audio screams. Safety first idiot.
