The KR's obsession with purity led to systematic and destructive purges to rid the party itself, and then the entire country, of foreign, corrupt influence. Jackson has observed that KR ideology resembled extreme sectarianism in its obsession with morality and purity, with complete perfection as a stated goal. Such ideological absolutism requires constant enemies, and the KR found them in abundant supply. They carried out purge after purge to achieve the goal of ideological purity; as time went on, the purges reached deeper into Khmer society until no one was safe.
LETTER FROM KRATIE PROVINCE:
To Highly respected Mr Director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia:
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude and sincere welcome to Mr Director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia and your colleagues with great enthusiasm after receiving a letter from you and your important magazine, "The Truth".
Beloved Director of DC-Cam, although I havent met you, I once had a sincere cooperation with Mr Phat Kosal, Deputy Director of DC-Cam. We have visited the main [genocide] locations in our Kratie Province. I am very excited and moved by the texts and images of the magazine, as I am one of the Cambodian victims under the Khmer Rouge regime, which killed my father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, wife, and three children, who were all accused of being KGB agents. I lost more than ten family member and relatives. I and the approximately 80 people, with whom I read your magazine, are very glad to discover that The Truth is free from political bias and features a wide variety of articles concerning international law which can serve to catalyse momentum for a possible trial in the future. This is the abiding hope of the Cambodian citizenry, those who survived the regime as well as the souls of parents who lost their lives under the regimes barbarous genocide of their own people. The people of Cambodia wish to make the souls of the dead rest in peace, and demand justice according to our religious principles, national, and international law.
IN KOMPONG CHAM PROVINCE: In Issue Number One we published the "confession" of Tiv Mei, a younger brother of Tiv Ol, who was arrested, tortured and killed by the Khmer Rouge on the grounds of having been a "Free Khmer, CIA, and a traitorous element in the party rank" in the Eastern Zone (Document File D00049, entitled "Biography of comrade Tiv Ol known as Penh"). The confession document is 103 pages long, and was written from July 14 to September 3, 1977 at Office S-21, now known as "Toul Sleng". Tiv Mei met the same fate as his brother Tiv Ol. Tiv Mei stated in his "confession" (Document File J00642): "On the evening of May 11, 1977, I asked for permission from a unit chief to bring soaked stitched-palm leaves to cover my house. At about 4 PM, while I was preparing the leaves to put in a cart, a cooperative chief accompanied by several unknown people told me that Angkar was planning to get me." Thereafter Tiv Mei was sent to Office S-21 and tortured into confessing on September 18, 1977. He was interrogated by comrade Oeun and subsequently killed. The method of recruitment: Poor peasants, mountain people, the inhabitants of the forest regions and the most remote village, those most "neglect" by the old regime, were exclusively recruited. To what end? Clever propaganda filled their hearts and minds with a seething, unquenchable hatred for the "upper class": those who were well housed, cloth, and fed; who could send their children to school, not needing them at home to help in the fields or tend the cattle or buffalo; who owned real and personal property, had servants, etc: who could easily pay their tax, or who collected them; those who administered or governed-in a word, the "oppressors." Question: Did the Khmer Rouge know that you and Tiv Mei were relatives of Tiv Ol, who worked in Phnom Penh? Answer: They knew, but didn't pay much attention, even though Tiv Mei's mother-in-laws, and other relatives had also been taken away. Tiv Mei, his elder sister and brother-in-law, along with a house servant, had also been taken away. During meetings it was always said, "Dig out grass, dig all its roots". Once a "new person's" son was killed. Later, his elder brother, aged 8, was also killed and thrown away into a bamboo thicket, where no one dared go in to retrieve the corpse for burial. Their mother dared not cry out openly for fear of being identified. Question: Did they arrest Tiv Mei's wife and children? Answer: Tiv Mei was taken first. Then in late 1977 or 1978, his wife was sent away. Tiv Mei and his wife were not arrested outright but tricked. People were happy with music via loud speakers, but didn't know they were about to be killed.

All Cambodian need to ask question, how genocide in the oyher place in the world, they didn't have picture and document really organized as the S21 in cambodia?
I think is the plan of the vietnamese the show the world how bad the khmer rouge is. But behind there, there were the Vietnameses infiltrated inside the high ranking khmer rouge such as Ieng Sary who is a Youn.
