This Companion Group has only one recorded single- Companions(With Bob Mersey & Orchestra)- Falling Dove(240) 1958. Listed at over $200

That's the late Jimmy McGowan on lead from the Four Fellows.. At least one other 4 Fellows member is chirping in the background - Davey Jones? Surprised no one's chimed in with that fact yet. GREAT sound though. Iinterestingly, Jimmy was going for the same sounding bridge as in "Angels Say".. great post Noce!!!

Interesting.. I never heard about that before. The back of a compilation CD listed them as an NJ group, and that's all I ever knew about them. If there was 4 Fellows involvement they'd most likely be a NY group. Thank you for the insight. Do you remember where you found the info? I'd like to read up on it

Hi pj i like the song very neat but have to disagree with ua little mate on the ' supposed to sound like' I put my case for "Oh let me dream" natvie boys "Each time" Ivy Tones and "Devil you maybe" The Dovers there's no 'Except' in these songs just to name a few.....just perfect doo-wop? For the record YOU are the Daddy-0 keep up the good work.!! Long live the DOO-WOP.

I get exactly what you mean. Doo Wop doesn't "have" to be anything to be good. What I was getting at is that if you were to use this song as an example of what doo wop is, it has every element of the music except for a falsetto.. It's a great, great tune regardless.

one of my all time favorites. I am putting together a book about the brightest stars in the heavens and I am connecting them with doo wops. It is partly mathematical because each stars gets a brightness ranking and I placed this song at number ten with the star Betelgeuse

@jmattei45 : If the "Lawrence Banks" that wrote this song is the same Larry Banks that was in the Four Fellows, then this may well be the Fellows recording under a different name. Interestingly, there was another Companions group with Larry, his sister Harriette, and the future Mrs. Banks, Bessie. They recorded "I Didn't Know" for Brook's in '59, which was later re-released in '61 on Federal.

Disclaimer: Harriette was my mom (R.I.P), Larry was my uncle (R.I.P.), and Bessie's my aunt!
