This is the 7th track on Billy Joel's 6th Album, 52nd Street. This was his first #1 Album, and was recorded and produced in 1978. This song was not a single.

Lyrics:

Little Geo is a friend of mine
We get some money and we buy a cheap wine
Sit on the corner and have a holiday
Hide the bottle when the cop goes by
Talk about women and lie, lie, lie
Oh, my other world is just a half a mile away.

Wait for mama to turn out the light
Crawl on the roof and then I hit the night
I should be sleeping but tonight I just can't stay
I've given everybody so much time
Now I need a moment that's mine...
Oh my other world is just a half a mile away

It's just a half a mile away

Angelina save a place for me
I've been livin' someone else's life and now I've got to be free
Turn your transistor on and let the music play
I try to keep the family satisfied
But there's gotta be more to life than just try, try, try
Oh my other world is only half a mile away

It's just a half a mile away

I've given everybody so much time
Now I need a moment that's mine...
Oh my other world is just a half a mile away

It's just a half a mile away

  • @precopster1 How could this not be the top album of 1978. I think it was only no. 8. What could have possibly beat this?

  • @mr198221 Just mentioned tonight that this album reminded me of listening to entire albums as a kid. This is when albums were decent from start to finish.

  • @precopster1 incredible album. just incredible. I loved 1978.

  • This is SUCH a catchy song!

  • This was from back in the day when you heard amazing deeper tracks like these on the radio all the time. Classic rock today for some reason wont play stuff like this. It sucks

  • @Keys22765 totally agree ... I don't really listen to the ones you hear on the radio.

  • @MrDrummer5150 I never even noticed that WAS a window. I am shameful :P
