Listener Mail:
1: "Should we use a different word than 'abortion,' because that word can also refer to a natural miscarriage?"

2: "One of my friends at school is planning on becoming an embryonic stem cell research scientist. Is there a unique way you would discuss the issue of life with an abortionist or a stem cell researcher?"

Includes a discussion on whether you should ever end a friendship with a pro-choice person or stem cell scientist.

  • Re. 1., using adjectives to differentiate abortion and miscarriage is useful. Abortion is elective abortion while miscarriage is spontaneous abortion (however, the latter may be insensitive to those who have had a miscar.).

Re. 2., one of the most well know firms in ESCR is dropping ESCR for adult stem cells (Geron; although see Dr. Gerard M. Nadal's comments). Other firms may do as well. This fact may be used to help researcher steer clear of a field that may have few jobs (help career path).
