'I was intrigued and surprised by the final chapter in Freuds life his forced migration to England from Nazi occupied Vienna, and consequently his status as a refugee.
After researching into family Freuds journey to London in 1938, I learnt that all of their books, antiquities and furniture arrived three months after they did. Sigmund travelled only with a small satchel. I did not however want to make an autobiographical piece I used his story as the projects beginning, and explored the situation of refugees coming to Britain today. Of particular interest; what possessions people choose when they have to leave their home/town/country quickly. I spoke to two friends: Saranda Bogujevci and Bes Bujupi who had to pack up choice belongings quickly when they fled war-torn Kosova in 1999. From these accounts, I packed an equivalent bag of my possessions and scanned and cast the bag.
The form of the Chinese Laundry Bag stuck me as a contemporary version of Freuds 1930s leather satchel.'
