@TheBavarianAryan Ethnically he was -a Baltic German (actually born in Austria) of whom there were many in the Russian aristocracy. Politically he was as a loyal a Russian and son of the Tsar as you would ever find, he just had German blood in his veins.

this man was one of the best soldiers russia ever produced he was outstanding in every way then he went native fighting and winning his own way, he was operating with his ragtag army quite beyond any acceptable norm of human conduct and quite obviously he had gone insane!
