"Katyń", directed by Wajda, is the first Polish film on the Katyń crime and the so-called Katyń lie.
The movie uses stories from an authentic diary of major Adam Solski found during the exhumation in 1943 to tell the fate of four fictional officers and their families.

Wajda's father, lt. Jakub Wajda, then 43, was among the Polish officers taken prisoner by the Soviet army and killed by a shot to the back of the head in the Katyń forest.

In March 1940 Soviet leader Josef Stalin ordered the executions of 22,000 Polish army and police officers, intellectuals and clergy. The killings took place in the spring of the same year in the Katyn Forest. The victims, mostly from POW camps in Kozielsk, Starobielsk and Ostaszkow, were shot in the back of the head. The Nazis discovered the mass graves during their march on Moscow in the fall of 1941, but Soviet propaganda blamed the deaths on Adolf Hitler and punished anyone speaking the truth with harsh prison terms. In 1990, Moscow admitted that dictator Josef Stalin's secret police were responsible.

  • I'm a Pole, two of my great-grand fathers were murdered in Katyń, their wives and children were sent by Soviets to Kazakhstan and barely made it out of there alive, unlike many other Poles. Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Wajda, but i'm glad that this movie was made, because it's still an unknown tragedy for most of people in the world, and as I once heard- to forget the fallen is to kill them for the second time.

  • Never again...should Poles take this. Give 'em Monte Cassino you Poles. Gates of Vienna.

  • There are at least 50,000 Japanese soldiers captured in Manchuria 1945 who disappeared in Siberia and no one can account for them. Russia is full of Katyns for diffeent peoples- Russian and non-Russian

    10. In 1945 Russia conquered Germany, restored Poland and gave it eastern German territories. Poland got larger than before and became sea cost.

    7. In 1939 Germany attacked Poland. The Polish government and generals run away cowardly and betrayed the Polish army and Polish people. Poland de facto disappeared.

  • Poland in 20th Century (1/3):

    1. In 1918 Russia was in flame of anti-Russian revolution. Poland occupied and annexed western Russian territories that were larger than Poland itself!

    2. Poland did not need a treaty with Russia against Germany, and intended to take part in aggression with Germany against Russia.

    3. In 1938 Poland did not permit the Russian army to pass the Polish territory in order to defend the Czech Republic against Germany.

  • The Poles in Russia were not prisoners of war. The Poles born in the returned West Russian territories were let go home. They Poles from territories occupied by Germans were interned. Russia armed, equipped and supplied the interned Poles for fighting. They also could work for money in Russia. But the most of them wanted neither to work nor to fight. They preferred to be a burden to Russian people which fought against Germans. Then Anders Army decided to go to Iran. So what is a problem?

  • The Polish officers were killed by Goebbels in 1943 for anti-Russian propaganda. They were killed by German pistols, their hands were bound by German string and their dead bodies were in earth not longer than 1 year. And all forged documents supplied by the traitors Gorbachev and Yeltsin to the Polish government were fabricated for Polish money. And now the sly Poland tries to make money on that tragedy, its own tragedy. And it is vile.

  • God bless the Polish nation, brothers of all Hungarians!!!
