  • It's... it's like an obscure form of peekaboo that includes beating eachother on the head with sticks and hiding behind cellos.

  • @eddiedaskull Actually, they were used only in judicial duels. So far it only seems to have been a 'German' tradition, although Germany didn't really exist back then. Also, it is most likely that this form of judicial duel was reserved for the lower - middle class since they would not have access to all the weapons and armor that would be needed to fight a duel in full harness.

  • Great demo. You don't see a lot of people working with those kinds of shields.

  • @Emangroove Yes. Talhoffer and a couple other masters wrote about them.

  • Are those from Fechtbook?

  • @Djemps

That makes sense it was reserved for the lower class since they would not have access to weapons or expensive armor.

However, they may be the exact reason they could have been used in war by peasant soldiers

Some places in Africa they do have a type of parring shield

Me,personally I see these shields being pratical in a mad max reality

especally if you make them bullet proof and they could be used to carry supplies and they could be used as a type of night shelter

  • these shield seem like a partical weapon of war

However, how often were these exotic weapons really used and by whom?

  • hello, i was wondering, how tall are your shields? I'm thinking about making one of my own and am stuck trying to figure out how tall to make it. Thanks for the help!:)

  • Yep!

Every hook and thorn has a reason to be there. There are many techniques in which they're used to stab (with upper and lower points), hook and grapple the opponent's shield, weapon or limbs if possible (there's a nasty one in which the lower hook is used to catch the enemy's neck =/).

There are many many exotic toys in medieval european warfare... u^^

  • Really? interesting, the sheild design itself doesn't look european at all, are they also based on the same 15th C manual?

  • Awesome video! It's the first time I see Talhoffer's techniques applied.

    Bravo! ^^
